Julia Kocal:
A Thoughtful Voice for Porter County

My life’s work has been centered on listening, understanding, and making thoughtful decisions that impact real people.

As a clinical psychologist and medical director, I’ve spent more than two decades helping individuals and families navigate complex challenges. That work has shaped how I approach problems, how I weigh decisions, and how I show up for others. I don’t take decisions lightly, because I know the real consequences they carry.

Porter County has been home to my family for over 25 years. It’s where we raised our children, built our lives, and became part of a community that looks out for one another. Today, as a grandmother, I see our community through a different lens. I think about the future we are building and the responsibility we have to get it right.

Throughout my career and my time in this community, I’ve seen how decisions made behind closed doors can ripple outward and affect everyday life. From rising costs to infrastructure challenges to questions about growth and development, those decisions matter.

I believe local government should reflect the same care and responsibility I’ve practiced in my professional life. That means being transparent, asking the right questions, and making decisions that truly serve the people who live here.

I also believe in standing up for working families. If public dollars are being spent, they should support local workers, fair wages, and responsible standards. Growth should strengthen our communities, not strain them or shift costs onto residents.

I’m running for Porter County Council to bring a more thoughtful, accountable approach to how decisions are made. One that puts people first, respects taxpayer dollars, and plans for the long term.

Because leadership isn’t about politics. It’s about responsibility.
